A word from Richard

Hello everyone

Crikey here we are in 2024. What a crazy world, and an even more crazy year ahead. Buckle up the seatbelts. Hold on to your hat’s, it’s shaping up to be a doozy.

The big squeeze is still on, with small businesses being crushed as big corporates take over. It’s what they want, and if you care about all the Mum and Dad, owner operated small businesses out there, and you may be one of them, then please support your local. We may not always be able to compete on price with the big corporations but every client of ours is treated as a V.I.P and not just a number adding to their profit margins. Wouldn’t you like to be a part of something special? Keep cash alive and support your local small business.

Yes, I’m still here living and loving life on the land running our business from my 3-acre property that gives me such joy. The developers are still trying very hard to deal with grubby greedy councils and Grubberment red tape but they’re spending a lot of money with their due diligence, so it all seems promising for an Offer of Sale expected by the end of this month. Fingers crossed. I still have no idea where I’ll move myself and business to next, but life is an exciting journey.

Wow hasn’t the weather been brutal and there’s more to come. The animals find it had to keep cool, I’ve even had to put ice blocks in my worm farm so the earth worms don’t boil like they did last year.

And remember you either use a water filter or your body is one. Cheers Cheers see you next time.

Unprecedented ocean heating shows risks of a world 3°C warmer

Record-high ocean temperatures observed in 2023 could become the norm if the world moved into a climate that is 3.0°C warmer than pre-industrial levels, according to a new study

From March 2023, the North Atlantic began to show extremely warm temperatures far exceeding anything seen in the past 40 years. As of August 2023, the North Atlantic was about 1.4°C warmer than the 1982-2011 average.

Analysis of climate model projections showed that last year's extreme ocean conditions were similar to what scientists expect to be the average if global warming reaches 3°C of warming. Currently, global temperatures have risen by about 1.2°C above pre-industrial levels.

New research, published this month in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, examines the causes of the record-breaking ocean temperatures witnessed in 2023.

Dr Till Kuhlbrodt, of the University of Reading, led the study. He said: "The extraordinary heat in the North Atlantic and missing sea ice in the Southern Ocean in 2023 tell us the oceans are sounding an alarm. We urgently need to understand exactly why parts of the ocean are warming rapidly so we can prepare for more frequent weather disruption across the planet. How often we get hit by more of these extremes hangs on figuring out what's driving the Atlantic and Southern Oceans into uncharted territory."

Water facts

Ocean currents and climate

Ocean currents act much like a conveyor belt, transporting warm water and precipitation from the equator toward the poles and cold water from the poles back to the tropics. Thus, ocean currents regulate global climate, helping to counteract the uneven distribution of solar radiation reaching Earth's surface.

Health tip

Wear Sunscreen and Insect Repellent

Use shade, wide-brimmed hats, clothing that covers, and broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 15 for sun protection. Use insect repellent and wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants to prevent mosquito bites and ticks. Apply sunscreen before insect repellent. After you come indoors, check your clothing, body, and pets for ticks. Reapply sunscreen after 2 hours and after swimming, sweating, or towelling off.

Customer testimonial

Floreat

Thank you. Derek came out and serviced our filter system. He was on time as always, took off his shoe's at the door; which we greatly appreciate as we do the same. He is very pleasant and cheerful every time he comes out. Even though it's only once a year it's so nice to have someone we are comfortable with to call in.
