April 2018

A word from Richard

Hello everyone.

Jumping right on into April now as the Easter Bunny has been and gone already. Did you eat far too much chocolate? Yummy isn’t it!!!

We’re so lucky here in Perth to get such lovely weather aren’t we? Unlike the East Coast. I know many of you certainly made the most of the Easter break with some fantastic Facebook posts of fun and adventures had. Yes I have been stalking Facebook.

Speaking of fun and adventures, the school holidays are only a couple of weeks away again too. Feeeew there’s more time for fun and adventures for kids and families to be had so stay safe and enjoy good times.

Yes time sure does fly! My magnificent son Sydney will be 18 on the 7th April. Crickey!!! What a fine outstanding young man he has grown into. One thing I am so looking forward to is standing next to him at a bar for his first legal drink. An experience I didn’t get the chance to have with my dad. Can you remember the fun, games and adventures you had at 18? Wow. He’s just got to make it to 25 now and then life should be taking off. All the best young man.

Business… Business, yes business is ticking along nicely for us here and we cherish the steady growth we’re having as for so many and even us times are tough out there but we all just have to continue supporting small business as that’s my answer to us all surviving.

See you all next time and remember, If You’re Not Using A Water Filter, Your Body Is One!!!

Understanding the strange properties of water

The properties of water have fascinated scientists for centuries, but yet its unique behaviour remains a mystery.

When compared to an ordinary liquid, water displays a vast array of anomalies. Common examples include the fact that liquid water expands on cooling below 4 C, which is responsible for lakes freezing from the top rather than the bottom.

In addition, the fact that water becomes less viscous when compressed, or its unusually high surface tension, allows insects to walk on water's surface.

These and many other anomalies are of fundamental importance in countless natural and technological processes, such as the Earth's climate, and the possibility of life itself. From an anthropic viewpoint, it is like the water molecule was fine-tuned to have such unique properties.

Starting from the observation that the properties of water seem to appear fine-tuned, a collaboration between Dr John Russo from the University of Bristol's School of Mathematics and Professor Hajime Tanaka from the University of Tokyo, harnessed the power of powerful supercomputers, using computational models to slowly "untune" water's interactions.

Water facts

The Black Sea

The Black Sea (known as the Euxine Sea, in antiquity; Latin: Pontus Euxinus) is an inland sea between southeastern Europe and Asia Minor.

It is connected to the Mediterranean Sea by the Bosporus and the Sea of Marmara, and to the Sea of Azov by the Strait of Kerch. There is a net inflow of seawater through the Bosporus, 200 km³ per year.

There is an inflow of freshwater from the surrounding areas, especially central and middle-eastern Europe, totalling 320 km³ per year. The most important river entering the Black Sea is the Danube.

The Black Sea has an area of 422,000 km² and a maximum depth of 2210 m.

The Black Sea is the largest anoxic, or oxygen-free, marine system. This is a result of the great depth of the sea and the relatively high salinity (and therefore density) of the water at depth; freshwater and seawater mixing is limited to the uppermost 100 to 150 m, with the water below this interface (called the pycnocline) being exchanged only once every thousand years.

There is therefore no significant gas exchange with the surface, and as a result decaying organic matter in the sediment consumes any available oxygen. In these anoxic conditions some extremophile microorganisms are able to use sulfate (SO42-) for oxidation of organic material, producing hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide.

This mix is extremely toxic, resulting in a sea that has almost all of its ecology living in that top layer down to a depth of approximately 180 m (600 ft). The relative lack of micro-organisms and oxygen has allowed deep-sea expeditions to recover ancient (on the order of thousands of years) human artifacts, such as boat hulls and the remains of settlements.

Health Tip

8 Key Benefits of Drinking Water on an Empty Stomach.

2. Improves Metabolism.

Drinking water on an empty stomach can increase your metabolic rate by at least 24%. It is very important for those people who are on a strict diet.

An increased metabolic rate means an improved digestive system. You will be able to follow your diet routine more easily if you digest faster.

Drinking water immediately after waking up purifies the colon, making it easier to absorb nutrients.

Customer testimonial

This is a testimonial from my 17yr old daughter Madison.

Since we have purchased the chilled water filter tap, our lives have been so much more peaceful.

We no longer yell and argue about who drank the cold water and didn't fill it back up; or who stole the water bottles from the fridge.

The tap is so easy and accessible when getting ready for sport, and it tastes just delicious!

So to all those families that want just a little peace and quiet, and not experience the dreaded 'blame game' any more, go purchase a chilled water filter tap!

It has changed our daily lives. Thank you Water Filter Man.
