A word from Richard

Hello everyone.

Three weeks to go! YIPPEE. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a safe rejuvenated return to 2018. The affordable gift that keeps on giving to top up the Christmas stockings is of course a shower filter!!!

Summer Holidays. I know I’m looking forward to some time off over the Christmas break to relax and re-charge. To catch up on odd jobs around the property. Hang out with family and mates with loads of fun times in the pool. No plans booked at all and I’m loving that idea.

It has been a very trying year for us all and I sure hope for better times in 2018. Businesses are mostly struggling out there but everyone is keeping in good spirits and charging on in a forward direction. I’m blessed with a good product and support network and we continue to grow but just steady steady as we go and I’m happy for that.

I have been enjoying donating my blood plasma on a regular basis at the Midland Blood Donation Centre. Last time I went in my Plasma was extracted in a very quick time that was noted. I asked the nurse why and she answered that it all depends on how well hydrated you are. The more hydrated you are, the thinner your blood is and so easier to extract plasma. Proper hydration sure is the key to good health!

It is very busy on site at the Forrestfield Train Link project and I enjoy driving past each day watching the progress. It’s quite an amazing project and one of many that Perth needs to catch up with population growth and urban spread. Both tunnel boring machines are hard at it with trucks in and out all day carting dirt away.

This will be our last Newsletter for 2017 and we sure hope you’ve enjoyed the read over the last year or so. Our first Newsletter for 2018 will land on your Inbox on the first Tuesday of February. This year West Coast Water Filter Man will close at 4pm Thursday 21st December and return to 2018 at 8:30am on January 8th.

So take good care of yourselves and keep hydrated. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Remember; You either use a water filter or your body is one!

Dogs enlisted to sniff out water leaks in Australian-first [Minister]

In an Australian- first, the Water Corporation has this week conducted a trial using two specially trained sniffer dogs to detect hidden leaks in below ground water mains.

The two dogs are being trained as part of a Water Corporation research and development program to smell water when there is a potential break along underground mains.

The utility is investigating whether the dogs can better detect hidden leaks in areas where other detection methods are deemed unsuitable or where human access is difficult.

The dogs, a springer spaniel called Tommy and a cocker spaniel called Emma, are being trained by leading Australian dog trainer Steve Austin. Steve has worked with a number of agencies in Australia to train dogs to detect different smells for situations including feral animal control and narcotics detection.

Leaks

Leaks can be extremely wasteful and costly. Regularly checking taps, pipes and fittings around your property could save precious water and precious money!

At one drip per second, a tap can leak 13000 Litres in a year, at today's prices that is around $9000 for a leaky tap.

Health Tip

7 Science-Based Health Benefits of Drinking Enough Water.

6) Water Helps Prevent Hangovers.

A hangover refers to the unpleasant symptoms experienced after drinking alcohol.

Alcohol is a diuretic, so it makes you lose more water than you take in. This can lead to dehydration.

Although dehydration is not the main cause of hangovers, it can cause symptoms like thirst, fatigue, headache and dry mouth.

A good way to reduce hangovers is to drink a glass of water between drinks, and to have at least one big glass of water before going to bed.

Bottom Line: Hangovers are partly caused by dehydration, and drinking water can help reduce some of the main symptoms of hangovers.
