A word from Richard

Hello everyone.

Crickey is there a spring in your step with the lovely weather we’re having just now? I can feel the Summer weather approaching fast and that means getting out the bathers Yippee!!! Oh and keeping well hydrated of course.

The Forrestfield Airport Train Link is steadily motoring along with both tunnel boring machines in operation and lot of workers on site now. We have a Developer about to do a 6 week feasibility study on our land and apparently putting an offer in so fingers crossed we get a very hugely nice Christmas present!

Speaking of nice weather, I recently bought a mountain bike and have done a couple of rides in the Perth hills with a mate of mine which is some serious fun exercise and even a more leisurely ride on the weekend with my daughter, Leah. So many tracks to enjoy in the hills and fab way to get some exercise in! I love it!

Crickey this NBN is a disruption to business when they have to connect. We have no internet and I’m not even stressed about it!!! Hopefully we will be back on deck soon and business as usual. So best we all just relax and keep hydrated.

It’s almost Christmas, only 7 weeks to go and the shops are all fitted out with decorations and sales are on their way. A shower filter is an amazing gift for someone. It’s the gift that just keeps on giving!

Have an enjoyable Melbourne Cup day and remember to rehydrate often to avoid the day after hangover. Until next time Cheers Cheers and remember; If You’re Not Using A Water Filter, Your Body Is One!

Cool roofs have water saving benefits too

The energy and climate benefits of cool roofs have been well established: By reflecting rather than absorbing the sun's energy, light-colored roofs keep buildings, cities, and even the entire planet cooler.

Now a new study by the Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) has found that cool roofs can also save water by reducing how much is needed for urban irrigation.

Based on regional climate simulations of 18 California counties, Berkeley Lab researchers Pouya Vahmani and Andrew Jones found that widespread cool roof adoption could reduce outdoor water consumption by as much as 9 percent.

In Los Angeles County, total water savings could reach 83 million gallons per day, assuming all buildings had reflective roofs installed. Their study, "Water conservation benefits of urban heat mitigation," was published in the journal Nature Communications

"This is the first study to look at the link between water and heat mitigation strategies in urban areas," Vahmani said. "You might not do cool roofs just to save water, but it's another previously unrecognized benefit of having cool roofs. And from a water management standpoint, it's an entirely different way of thinking -- to manipulate the local climate in order to manipulate water demand."

Water facts

Terrarium Earth

The Earth is a closed system, similar to a terrarium, meaning that it rarely loses or gains extra matter. The same water that existed on the Earth millions of years ago is still present today.

The total amount of water on the earth is estamated to be about 1 358 827 332 000 000 gigalitres of water. (1 gigaliter = one billion liters ). Less than 1% of this is available or clean enough for humans to drink. The rest is salty or frozen.

However; The search for clean energy will result in the destruction of the water molecule. The extraction of Hydrogen from water will take the "H" out of "H2O", it will cease to be water and for the first time in Earth’s history it will result in using up water.

We have the technology to separate the molecules of water but we cannot recreate it. We have the technology to extract water from wherever it exists but not replenish it. Once used, it's gone.

Health Tip

7 Science-Based Health Benefits of Drinking Enough Water.

5) Drinking Water May Help Treat Kidney Stones

Urinary stones are painful clumps of mineral crystal that form in the urinary system.

There is limited evidence that water intake can help prevent recurrence in people who have previously gotten kidney stones.

Higher fluid intake increases the volume of urine passing through the kidneys, which dilutes the concentration of minerals, so they are less likely to crystallize and form clumps.

Water may also help prevent the initial formation of stones, but studies are required to confirm this.

Bottom Line: Increased water intake appears to decrease the risk of kidney stone formation. More research is needed in this area.

Customer testimonial

CTC - Connecting the Change

Thank you so much for your prompt, value for money, life saving service! I was not sure I could organise you to come to fix my water filter at such short notice with me not being available for 3 days, and only on the off chance that my husband would be at home!.

I will be out for 3 days this week and I know that the family would not empty the bucket as regularly as I would (we are heavy users of filtered water) and I would have had floods each day.

So thank you. I am very impressed with your service and your charges. Not that I should be saying so (for future use of your services!) but to pay $88 for the part and a call out is impressive.

I can’t remember the last time a call out did not cost me at least $110 plus parts. $88 is certainly value for money. Thank you again.
