A word from Richard

Hello everyone.

Oh yeah Spring is in the air, and what a lovely sunny week it is to kick it off with.

I hope all you Dad’s enjoyed your Father’s Day as much as I did. The Universe delivered us a lovely sunny day. I thoroughly enjoyed wandering aimlessly around my 3 acre property doing an odd job here and there with champagne in hand.

It's been a bit quiet out there on the business front last month, not just for us but generaly in Perth. Let's hope as the weather warm up business picks up for us all.

The Forrestfield-Airport link will be one of the best rail links in the country, if not in the world. A Forrestfield factory will begin making 132 segments of the tunnel each day, with a total 54,000 segments and 9000 rings to line the 8km tunnel. The tunnel boring machine is set to reach the Airport Central station in early next year.

So please enjoy another good quick look at our Newsletter and we’ll be back in touch next month. The Librans month.

Keep hydrated and remember “You either use a water filter or your body is one!” Cheers Cheers.

A smart graphene membrane to desalinate water.

A simple, sturdy graphene-based hybrid desalination membrane can provide clean water for agriculture and possibly human consumption.

An international team of researchers, including scientists from Shinshu University (Japan) and the director of Penn State's ATOMIC Center, has developed a graphene-based coating for desalination membranes that is more robust and scalable than current nanofiltration membrane technologies. The result could be a sturdy and practical membrane for clean water solutions as well as protein separation, wastewater treatment and pharmaceutical and food industry applications.

"Our dream is to create a smart membrane that combines high flow rates, high efficiency, long lifetime, self-healing and eliminates bio and inorganic fouling in order to provide clean water solutions for the many parts of the world where clean water is scarce," says Mauricio Terrones, professor of physics, chemistry and materials science and engineering, Penn State. "This work is taking us in that direction."

The hybrid membrane the team developed uses a simple spray-on technology to coat a mixture of graphene oxide and few-layered graphene in solution onto a backbone support membrane of polysulfone modified with polyvinyl alcohol. The support membrane increased the robustness of the hybrid membrane, which was able to stand up to intense cross-flow, high pressure and chlorine exposure.

Water facts

Late winter rains

Late winter rains have boosted our dams to their highest levels in almost a decade. The run-off has left the dams at 42.1% capacity or holding 265 billion litres.

However we are still only just above the year to date average and we would need to get double the average rainfall for years on end to fill our dams back up again.

We still have to go easy with our water use and be water wise.

Health Tip

7 Science-Based Health Benefits of Drinking Enough Water.

3) Drinking Water May Help to Prevent and Treat Headaches.

Dehydration can trigger headaches and migraines in some individuals.

Several studies have shown that water can relieve headaches in those who are dehydrated .

However, this appears to depend on the type of headache.

One study of 18 people found that water had no effect on the frequency of headaches, but did reduce the intensity and duration somewhat.

Bottom Line: Drinking water can sometimes help relieve headache symptoms, especially in people who are dehydrated.

Customer testimonial

South Guildford

Hi Richard

I just wanted to let you know and say that the plumber that installed the twin undersink system is one of the nicest tradies we've had the pleasure to deal with.

We've had a few out recently and Troy tops them all.

Thanks again!

Steve
