A word from Richard

Hello everyone.

Well didn’t March fly by? Easter Bunny came and went and so did all the holidays. It was a lot of fun though.

Ahhhh but School holidays start this weekend again. Don’t school holidays come around fast? Crickey it seems like kids are nearly on holidays more than they are at school! Guess this just means that I am having far too much fun. Mmmmmm what should we do with them these school holidays? Hope you all have fun anyway.

The weather has changed and I’m loving it. I hate the stinking hot days of Summer. I do like the long daylight hours though as I love to get up early and crack into the day and by about 9.00 or 10.00am I feel like I have done a good half days work already and there is still a whole day ahead to enjoy. I do like the cooler weather. So much better for sleeping at night.

We continue to grow each day with new clients but we sure are seeing a lot of businesses struggling out there. It makes me feel even more passionate about dealing local and supporting other small business operators out there as we all sure do need the help. So please think LOCAL. Use local small business operators whenever you can.

Above all keep fit, be active and keep hydrated; And until next time remember: “You either use a water filter or your body is one!”

Capturing 'black gold' with light.

The findings could have significant implications for large-scale water purification.

New Monash University research published this year in the Royal Society of Chemistry journal Nanoscale has found a simple and effective way of capturing graphenes and the toxins and contaminants they attract from water by using light.

A small amount of a special light-sensitive soap was added to the water containing the graphenes and contaminants. The soap changes its molecular structure when light of a particular colour is shone onto it. This changes the way it interacts with carbon materials in the graphene and causes them to separate out (along with contaminants stuck to them), enabling easier extraction of the graphenes and contaminants. Shining a different coloured light re-disperses the graphenes for re-use.

Monash researcher Dr Rico Tabor explained the diverse technological opportunities offered by graphene owing to its unique structure and properties.

"Among its many potential uses, the prospect of using graphenes for the purpose of water purification is extremely promising. Because the structure is essentially two-dimensional and only an atom thick, graphene `sheets' have the highest surface area possible, meaning their capacity to mop up contaminants in water surpass that of any currently used materials or membranes," Dr Tabor said.

Water facts

Natural wonders of the world. "Lake Baikal"

The lake is located in the south of Siberia and is believed to be the oldest lake in the world, estimated at around 25 million years old.

Baikal is also the world’s largest freshwater lake and contains an incredible 20% of the planet’s unfrozen freshwater. It is also the deepest freshwater lake in the world and is one of the clearest lakes on the planet.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, Baikal also contains around 1,700 different species of animals and plants, of which two thirds of these (around 5,650) cannot be found anywhere else on the planet!

The lake’s location also means it experiences a huge temperature change between the summer and winter months and spends much of the winter in a crystalized, frozen state.

Health Tip

Why You Need Optimal Hydration.

Drinking Water Doesn’t Equal Hydration. Just like our precious planet, our body consists of more than 70% water. Being dehydrated isn’t just feeling thirsty!

We spend billions on bottled water each year, we are drinking more water than ever, and yet 75% of the world’s population is chronically dehydrated.

Why? Research confirms that the molecules of most of the water we consume daily are aligned in a chaotic, large-clustered manner. That makes it extremely difficult for our body to absorb and optimally hydrate, ultimately leading to unintentional, yet chronic dehydration.

Research has shown that millions of people are experiencing the following symptoms as a direct result of dehydration:

Uneven skin tone

Premature onset of wrinkles

Anxiety and/or Depression

Headaches

Joint pain

Excess Weight

Sleeplessness

Lack of focus and Fatigue

Over the years, thousands of my patients have – unbeknownst to them – suffered from what we call UCD – ‘Unintentional Chronic Dehydration’. Since introducing them to the super-liquid GIA i-H2O System, they’ve experienced first-hand what superior hydration feels and looks like. The results with i-H2O have been beyond impressive.”
