October 2015

A word from Richard

Hello everyone.

Can you believe it's October already! I think I say this every year!!!! I must having too much fun!

Speaking of getting older… My personal 50th Birthday Showdown took a nasty turn with an injured left shoulder and ongoing injury to my operated right knee seeing me have to pull out of training for a few weeks to recover and heal with only one and a half weeks to go! Oh well life’s challenges are put there to test us all and how we deal with them can set us all up for a healthy and fun retirement with good health to enjoy it. At least I am very fit and healthy for my age and I’m very happy about that.

Oh no the Eagles lost the Grand Final to the might of the Hawks on the weekend and the Cowboys beat the Bronco’s in the NRL to end a few big weekends of football. Well done to both teams, what a great couple of games.

RUOK!!! October is officially Mental Health Month! Lifeline encourages everyone to take time out this month and look after ourselves. Remember, if you are ever feeling overwhelmed, Lifeline are there to help 24/7 on 13 11 14 or every night on our online Crisis Support Chat service. www.lifeline.org.au/Get-Help

As school holidays are still on don’t forget to remind the kids to keep hydrated with all the excitement and activities they’re likely taking part in and it is easy to forget.

So have a great month and don’t forget ‘You either use a water filter, or your body is one’ Cheers Cheers.

Channel 7 TV Star Larry Emdur Inspires Perth Man to Shape Up

When celebrity star Larry Emdur recently made front cover of the Men’s Health magazine at aged 50 it inspired Perth man Richard Scholes to take on the challenge to fight fat and win as well.

Business owner Richard Scholes, also known as the West Coast Water Filter Man said that the years of hard work building a successful business has taken its toll on his health and fitness.”

“When I saw Larry Emdur on the front cover of Men’s Health at 50, it made me realise that I had let a few years slip by and a few extra kilo’s slip on and it disgusted me, said Mr Scholes.

“I only had one thought – if Larry can do it then I can do it too,” he said. “I gave myself a deadline of looking just as buff as Larry by the time I turned 50.” “With 16 weeks before the big birthday I enlisted the support of Tim Almond’s Box33 X-Training Studio Perth.”

“That was the turning point because we made a goal and then made a path to success.” “It meant taking a 30 minute drive four times a week to the studio to do two personal training sessions, an open gym session and a group circuit class each week.” “I have literally undergone a transformation.”

“I also got on board with Dry July and this alone helped in rapid weight loss.” “I dropped two kilos a week by just cutting out alcohol – it surprised me how much alcohol does affect body weight and fat levels.” “I’ve also been on a strict eating plan.”

“I’ve also been on a strict eating plan.”

• Regular cardio and muscle strength training.

• No alcohol: I recently had three glasses of wine for Father’s Day and my fitness instructor made me then do 20kms on the air bike in just under an hour.

• Eating healthy – significantly reduced carbs, increased protein and good fats.

• Drinking much more water. I’m fortunate that I run a water filtration business because maintaining hydration by drinking at least 2 litres of purified water daily cleanses your body of toxins.

• Sleep – it’s important to be asleep at least between 1030pm and 230am as this is when the body repairs itself.

“I can really appreciate what Larry, the bikini models, elite athletes and body builders go through just for that one day or photo shoot.” “It really is strict, a lot of hard work and sacrifice.” “I am now only four weeks out and finding the last bit of body fat hard to shift.”

Water facts

Water softening

This is the removal of calcium, magnesium, and certain other metal cations in hard water.

The resulting soft water is more compatible with soap and extends the life time of plumbing.

Water softening is usually achieved using lime softening or ion-exchange resins.

Health Tip

Help to prevent hair damage.

You probably know from firsthand experience that chlorinated or salty water can turn healthy hair into a frizzy mess.

The fix is easier than you think. "Just rinse your hair in the shower or under a hose before swimming," says Laini Reeves, owner and creative director of Essensuals London, a salon in Los Angeles.

"The strands will absorb their fill of clean water, so they won't be able to soak up as much of the damaging water." After your dip, coat hair with conditioner for extra protection from the sun.

Customer testimonial

From the team at LG Accounting Solutions

To Richard and the crew at West Coast Waterfilter Man.

Sincere thanks to you for the professional and effortless service you provided us.

Our initial enquiry of our requirements was met with Richards’s recommendations to a range of products suitable for our needs. Once we decided on the product their tradesman Troy came to our office for the installation. He was quick and efficient and even cleaned up after himself. Very impressed!

The water filter system works a treat and tastes fantastic, an amazing difference to what we were drinking before.

Thanks again!

A closing thought

"Better one good thing that is, than two things that were"

Often times we forget to focus on what we already have, rather than what we ‘could have’ or ‘should have’. We are alive, in this moment we have everything we need. Indeed it is better to see that what we have is good, great, and perfect for where we are right now, than to dwell on things that can’t be changed.
