A word from Richard

Hello everyone.

Can you smell it? Spring is in the air. Yes the sun is rising earlier. And of course setting later too! And Don’t forget Father’s Day!!! We all love a Lazy day to enjoy Father’s Day.

I like getting up early. There’s always the fresh new day smells and it’s even better after some rain. This is when I like to get my exercise for the day out of the way and it really is a great way to start the day.

There’s six weeks to go now until my 50th Birthday Showdown. It is certainly making me admire how much work and dedication professional athletes, body sculpting athletes and models have to do to do what they do full-time. Wow hard work but I’m enjoying the journey!

Well it will be school holidays again soon…. Crickey!!! They sure do come around quick. What have you got planned for your school holidays? Not sure yet either. They’re usually the best ones.

What else is news Hmmm. Business as usual here. We’ve been really busy when many are doing it tough so that’s a good thing for us at least. The economy is pretty volatile still so it heads down, tail up and just push on through.

There’s always light at the end of the tunnel so keep positive and keep going.

So until next time keep hydrated and remember, “You either use a water filter or your body is one!

Press Release

Perth’s Drinking Water - How Safe Is It?

Perth water has a reputation of poor taste and foul smell, leaving consumers wondering what's in their water.

Leading water filtration expert, Richard Scholes said chemicals and contaminants in our water were harmful to our health and could be absorbed by drinking and bathing in it.

“These contaminants can effect the quality of your skin, concentration, general health and also disrupts normal cell production leading to more serious diseases,” said Mr Scholes.

“Many people are unaware of the high levels of copper in Perth water possibly due to aging infrastructure which could lead to liver disease,” he said. “A simple hair analysis can determine if you are at risk.”

“There have been many cases of gastrointestinal infection each year from Giardia, Cryptosporidium and E.coli leading to hospital admissions that may be caused by contaminated water.”

“Bottled water could be considered as an option but runs the risk of contaminants, economical and environmental issues.”

"I recommend installing a good quality drinking water purifier and shower filters - effectively 'unwrapping' the water.”

“If you’re not using a water filter, your body is one.”

Mr Scholes explained that a water filter removed contaminants like:

Chlorine: A disinfectant that can affect our DNA, needs to be removed before consuming.

Heavy metals: - Lead, copper, mercury – these are known to affect the liver and brain functioning.

Biological contaminants: These are a major cause of gastrointestinal diseases and general health illnesses.

Herbicides and Pesticides: Both have their value in agriculture but are leached into the ground water and have been linked to major health issues.

Wes Burfitt, Bio Chemist and water filtration specialist said it was known that when two or more chemicals came into contact with each other they reacted, sometimes violently.

“The problem with choloine, copper, lead or any other water borne pollutant to our DNA is that we really don't know what the combined effect of these substances will be,” said Mr Burfitt. “It stands to reason though that there must be some altering effect."

Richard Scholes the owner of West Coast Water Filter Man, one of Perth's last remaining independent, locally owned and operated water filtration companies has over 15 years experience specialising in water filtration and Health and Fitness industry.

Water facts

The dangers of microwaving Water!

Microwaved water and other liquids do not always bubble when they reach boiling point. They can actually get superheated and not bubble at all. The superheated liquid will bubble up out of the cup when it is moved or when something like a spoon or tea bag is put into it.

It is caused by a phenomenon known as super heating. It can occur any time water is heated and will particularly occur if the vessel that the water is heated in is new, or when heating a small amount of water (less than half a cup).

What happens is that the water heats faster than the vapour bubbles can form. If the cup is very new, then it is unlikely to have small surface scratches inside it that provide a place for the bubbles to form. As the bubbles cannot form and release some of the heat that has built up, the liquid does not boil, and the liquid continues to heat up well past its boiling point.

What then usually happens is that the liquid is bumped or jarred, which is just enough of a shock to cause the bubbles to rapidly form and expel the hot liquid. The rapid formation of bubbles is also why a carbonated beverage spews when opened after having been shaken.

To prevent this from happening and causing injury, do not heat any liquid for more than two minutes per cup. After heating, let the cup stand in the microwave for thirty seconds before moving it or adding anything into it.

Health Tip

Lemon Water

You may have heard it many times before, and I will say it again here.

Have a warm glass of lemon water in the morning. Add slices of lemon into the water that you drink throughout the day. (Learn how much water you need to drink daily.)

Lemon is one of the best detoxifying foods that also enhance absorption of nutrients.

Fats are really your body’s waste storage, and lemon gets to melt away the fats/toxins and remove them from your body.

Customer testimonial

Steve - South Guildford

Hi Richard,

I just wanted to let you know and say that the plumber that installed the twin undersink system is one of the nicest tradies we've had the pleasure to deal with.

We've had a few out recently and Troy tops them all.

Thanks again!
