A word from Richard

Hello everyone.

Well we are officially in Winter season now and yep it sure has been chilly and dark in the early mornings lately.

I’ve really been enjoying getting to the gym for PT sessions and getting warmed and pumped up before starting the day. The gym I train at has an Open Day coming up soon. If you’re interested stay posted to Box 33 This article can be found at www.box33.com.au or follow them on Facebook. I love it and have really enjoyed the results. I do more in life with ease.

We found a most suitable new home for our nice big Mr Ram. He has well and truly done his job here producing 6 healthy lambs and a nice man came and collected him for $50 and our lucky Mr Ram is going to live with a nice little bunch of ladies. He loves it. He’s very friendly with the girls/ewes. So we’re happy for him.

Guess what!!! We’re coming up to Tax time again OH NO…. So don’t forget to get your tax deductions sorted by having a water cooler system installed at work. Staff will be so much more hydrated that you will see happier healthier and more productive staff. It’s true.

In October this year I will be crewing for my good mate Alan Hamer who will be riding 200KM through Western Australia over 2 days in The 2015 MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer - and we need your help. Every donation made to his Ride is invested into the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, fuelling ground-breaking research into conquering cancer in our lifetime. Your generosity could save someone's life TODAY! Please donate to support this vital research. This article can be found at conquercancer.org.au Click on this link to find out more.

So keep warm. Keep hydrated, yes especially through Winter. And we’ll back next month. Don’t forget; You either use a water filter, or your body is one! Cheers Cheers.

Water purification: Researchers pioneering new method

"We're using water to clean water." This is how Selma Mededovic Thagard describes her current work on purifying drinking water

The chemical and biomolecular engineering professor at Clarkson University is pioneering a new purification process that, if successful, could help millions of people without access to clean water quickly and efficiently purify water to make it safe for drinking and cooking.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is funding this first-of-its-kind water purification research project.

Thagard's method begins by changing water from liquid to vapor. "Then, we go beyond that," she says, "heating the vapor until it becomes plasma. In this state, the molecules become highly reactive. It's like creating lightning in liquids."

This conversion happens in a plasma reactor that generates an electrical field so powerful that within minutes it can purify several gallons of drinking water.

"We're not heating the water that's being purified," Thagard says, "so the plasma reactor requires much less energy than some traditional purification methods. People all over the world -- especially in places with few resources -- could use this process to remove toxins and water-borne parasites from their drinking supply."

Water facts

Is bottled water better for you than tap water?

Short answer: No. Bottled water is no safer or purer than tap water, although it is substantially more expensive.

A recent study by Glasgow University in the U.K. found that bottled water is actually more likely to be contaminated than water from your faucet because it is less well-regulated.

Bottled water and tap water typically come from the same sources — natural springs, lakes, and aquifers. While public water supplies are tested for contaminants every day, makers of bottled water are only required to test for specific contaminants every week, month, or year.

Health Tip

If you think you are not getting enough water, these tips may help:

Carry a water bottle for easy access when you are at work of running errands.

Freeze some freezer safe water bottles. Take one with you for ice-cold water all day long.

Choose water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages. This can also help with weight management. Substituting water for one 20-ounce sugar sweetened soda will save you about 240 calories. For example, during the school day students should have access to drinking water, giving them a healthy alternative to sugar-sweetened beverages.

Choose water when eating out. Generally, you will save money and reduce calories.

Add a wedge of lime or lemon to your water. This can help improve the taste and help you drink more water than you usually do.
