A word from Richard

Hello everyone. Well here comes May and the Winter months are upon us.

It looks like the weather has changed. Aren’t the mornings a lot darker and chilly? It certainly makes snuggling into a nice doona overnight pleasurable, and harder to get out of bed in the mornings.

I’m loving the three mornings a week I’m at the gym as it sure doesn’t take long before you’re seriously warmed up and puffing and panting through gruelling sessions. I’m sure getting more out of life with greater ease because of it.

Gosh we’re still busy pouring new clients into our system each day and enjoying the ride. We’re also enjoying watching the progress our new and young eighteen year old service technician is showing. It’s good to find a young fella keen to work and learn too.

In October this year I will be crewing for my good mate Alan Hamer who will be riding 200KM through Western Australia over 2 days in The 2015 MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer - and we need your help. Every donation made to his Ride is invested into the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, fuelling ground-breaking research into conquering cancer in our lifetime.

Your generosity could save someone's life TODAY! Please donate to support this vital research. Click on this link to find out more. http://pr15.conquercancer.org.au/site/R?i=9i3oinW6V-1tihMOpwoLiA

Thank you all for your continued support! And remember; You either use a water filter, or your body is one!

Quenching the thirst for clean, safe water

It is estimated that one in nine people globally lack access to safe water.

Michigan State University researchers are looking to fill that critical need and provide safe drinking water to the most remote locations in the world with a new foam water filter that significantly reduces dangerous pathogens in drinking water.

"The foam filter is the first of its kind to address a wide range of the biological and economic factors that hinder development of remote water filtration systems," said Joan Rose, Homer Nowlin Chair in water research and author of the study. "This filter is easier to use and more effective than traditional methods."

Published in the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the study examined a multibarrier biofilm foam filter, designed and manufactured by Amway, as a low-cost alternative to existing household filtration methods.

"The foam filter combines existing water treatment principles and is evidence that conventional municipal water treatment processes can be reinvented into a small, light and portable system," Rose said

Water facts

Aquatic animals, Fish

One way to tell the age of a fish is by looking at its scales. They have growth rings just like trees. These are called circuli. Clusters of them are called annuli. Each annuli show one year.

Fish have gel-slime on their bodies that protects them from parasites.

Fish swimming at depths of 15,000 feet (almost 3 miles down!) can withstand a pressure of 7,000 pounds per square inch. They are able to live in these crushing depths by pumping gas into their swim bladder.

The stonefish, which lives off the coast of Australia, is the most poisonous fish in the world.

Richard's Health Tip

Water is vitally important to our health and well-being all year round.

Even in winter when you might feel less inclined to drink it!

In fact we may even have more of a requirement in winter due to being in heated rooms and cars so much of the time, as this can really dehydrate us.

You may notice that your skin is often more dry in winter than it is in summer and our heating systems can be one cause, along with reduced water intake. So drink up.

Customer testimonial

Scott Carlisle

We didn’t realise how poor our water quality was but should have noticed the effects on our kettle, coffee machine and other appliances.

It is scary to think we were also putting the same water into our bodies.

Richard provides a super product and service that gave us a simple solution. We would recommend the West Coast Water Filter Man in the highest regard to solve your water issues. Don’t let your body be a filter any longer!
