A word from Richard

Hello everyone.

And They’re off…Racing!!! Yes it’s Melbourne Cup Day today. The race that stops a Nation. Well not in WA yet but close. Please Note: West Coast Water Filter Man will be CLOSED today. We’re taking the team out to enjoy some festivities. Here’s hoping you have some luck with your bets if you take the chance.

We had a very proud parent day last Friday. We attended the Mazenod College Sportsman’s Dinner 2014 where our son Sydney was awarded Runner-up Champion boy for his year for swimming. On the same day our daughter Leah was presented with a Super Merit Award for showing excellent leadership, being a great role model and going above and beyond with her assistance. They’re growing into mighty fine young citizens.

Things are coming along nicely with the Peaceful Retreat I’ve been building. Last weekend I had good friend Gregg Oughton of AMM Building Solutions help me sheet out the extension with corrugated tin to complete the bathroom/laundry extension. Oh wow it is so cool. Just quietly, I think my son Sydney wants to move in.

I was very excited to have enrolled to be a new blood donor recently. Went in for my appointment, completed the questionnaire, then went in to chat to a lovely Nurse and she had to send me away as they needed to site my test results from having a Melanoma chopped out of my back 3 1/2 years ago. As much as I was disappointed for this, I was equally impressed with how strict they are and for good reason too. Oh well I’ll back in there as soon as they get around to viewing the report.

Kids are coming up for exams at school and Uni, and it is very important they get enough sleep, regular exercise, a healthy diet and most importantly they must keep hydrated to assist with memory and concentration whilst studying.

Well that’s just about enough from me for this month so now please enjoy another easy read of our fantastic newsletter and we’ll see you again soon and remember to keep hydrated. “You either use a water filter or your body is one!” Take care. Cheers Cheers.

Fracking

'Fracking' wastewater that is treated for drinking downstream produces potentially harmful compounds.

Concerns that fluids from hydraulic fracturing, or 'fracking,' are contaminating drinking water abound. Now, scientists are bringing to light another angle that adds to the controversy. A new study has found that discharge of fracking wastewaters to rivers, even after passage through wastewater treatment plants, could be putting the drinking water supplies of downstream cities at risk.

William A. Mitch, Avner Vengosh and colleagues point out that the disposal of fracking wastewater poses a major challenge for the companies that use the technique, which involves injecting millions of gallons of fluids into shale rock formations to release oil and gas. The resulting wastewater is highly radioactive and contains high levels of heavy metals and salts called halides (bromide, chloride and iodide). One approach to dealing with this wastewater is to treat it in municipal or commercial treatment plants and then release it into rivers and other surface waters.

The problem is these plants don't do a good job at removing halides. Researchers have raised concern that halide-contaminated surface water subsequently treated for drinking purposes with conventional methods, such as chlorination or ozonation, could lead to the formation of toxic byproducts. Mitch's team set out to see if that was indeed the case.

Health Tip

This month's health tip brought to you by "Start CrossFit" Real Training for Real Results

Have you ever walked into a supplement store lately. Holy crap, it's like walking through your local Woolworths. Isle after isle.

I'm here to tell you, it's all marketing hype and when you find out exactly what % is actually of most ingredients it's a big rip off.

The most important supplements you require are;

1. Mutli Vitamin

2. Fish Oil

3. Protein Powder

4. Green Powder

If you do intense Training sessions you will also require;

1. Creatine Monohydrate*

*Make sure it's just that. Not other add ons. Creatine monohydrate is the only supplement that has research backing and is proven to work.

Customer testimonial

Jacqueline Brown

Richards water filters make even the most average tasting water seem as if it has come from a pristine mountain spring. After tasting it I had to get it installed at work and at home, even my relatives were so impressed that they are now enjoying the benefits in their homes too! Richards swift, professional and enthusiastic manner makes him a pleasure to deal with..

I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to have healthier tastier water.
