A word from Richard

Hello everyone.

Well here we are again and we’re seeing the sun come earlier each day now so Summer is on its way Hooray. Oh boy that means it goes crazy for us for 4 or 5 months and we’ll need another service technician by then.

Anyone looking for work who presents well and has good people skills willing to work with a fun award winning team? It may be 3 days a week to start but should eventual to 4 or 5 days by end of Summer. Otherwise I’m going to have to go back out on the road and I’m too busy to do that as well.

What’s on this month then? Well this week is World Breastfeeding Week. World War 1 started on 4th August in 1914 and 22nd August is Daffodil Day to support Cancer Council Australia.

I have been busy in my spare time having fun converting a horse stable on our 3 acre property into a granny flat and its coming along just nicely. I have given it a name too; “Peaceful Retreat” because that’s exactly what it is.

Oh boy I need to get out on my Harley more often as I have just killed the battery by not getting out on it enough and leaving it on constant trickle charge. Bugger.

See you all next time and remember, If You’re Not Using A Water Filter, Your Body Is One!

Worldwide water shortage by 2040

By 2020 the water issue affects 30-40% of the world

Two new reports that focus on the global electricity water nexus have just been published. Three years of research show that by the year 2040 there will not be enough water in the world to quench the thirst of the world population and keep the current energy and power solutions going if we continue doing what we are doing today. It is a clash of competing necessities, between drinking water and energy demand. Behind the research is a group of researchers from Aarhus University in Denmark, Vermont Law School and CNA Corporation in the US.

In most countries, electricity is the biggest source of water consumption because the power plants need cooling cycles in order to function. The only energy systems that do not require cooling cycles are wind and solar systems, and therefore one of the primary recommendations issued by these researchers is to replace old power systems with more sustainable wind and solar systems.

The research has also yielded the surprising finding that most power systems do not even register how much water is being used to keep the systems going.

"It's a huge problem that the electricity sector do not even realise how much water they actually consume. And together with the fact that we do not have unlimited water resources, it could lead to a serious crisis if nobody acts on it soon," says Professor Benjamin Sovacool from Aarhus University.

Water facts

Our bodies are made up of over 80% water.

At birth you are 90% water and at death you are less than 50%, our eyes are 95% water, our Brain 75% water, our Heart 75% water, our Lungs 86% water, and our Blood, which is 83% water. Somewhere between birth and death, we become dehydrated - we've accepted as normal somewhere around 70%. So anything above 70% is good, but the ideal is moving more towards 90%.

That's probably what makes babies so supple. You know, you touch their skin and it's soft, it's pliable, it's supple. This is because the skin is hydrated and we lose that over time from dehydration. You want younger looking skin – simply drink more water and stay hydrated.

Health Tip

This month's health tip brought to you by "The" Water Filter Man

Finding the right water balance for each of us is important.

This is based on our body size, level of physical activity, exercise and sweating, the local climate, and our diet.

A diet that is dry and high in proteins and fats creates a need for even more water to flush these foods healthfully through our system. The average person drinks only 4.6 servings/cups of water a day. That’s a bit shy, especially when most of us do not consume our share of fresh fruits and veggies.

Water drinking should be a habit, something we do without having to think about it. Only one third of us claim they drink eight glasses of water a day; 28% have three or fewer servings, and nearly 10% say they don't drink water at all.

The most frequent reason given for not drinking water is lack of time, as reported by 21% in a recent survey. Like anything, preparation saves time and allows us to engage in these healthier habits.

Prioritize water hydration. And during hot weather, drink 2 to 3 glasses more than usual. When we have a cold, or for many illnesses and symptoms, like headaches and allergies, it is helpful to hydrate the body fully with water and herbal teas.

We can know this by our urinary output, generally every couple hours during the day.
