December 2012

Newsletter

A word from Richard

Hello everyone.

Oh wow December already. Even our kids thought this year has gone fast!!! Has it gone fast for you? I hope it has been prosperous.

Again, this year on the 1st of December I rode my Harley on the Charity Motorbike Ride in the huge group organised by Peter Sanders from Lawler McGillray. I was honoured to be the lead rider of the group with the most teddy bears strapped to the bikes and together we filled 5 or 6 wool bales full of teddies which were donated to The Salvos. I took my daughter Leah for the ride and we sure had a big day out.

We have been so busy of late. A few hot days and everyone all of a sudden says their water tastes like ….. How much and how soon can we have a water filter system installed? Amazing!!!!

Want a great idea for a Christmas present? We again have been booking shower filters and drinking water systems to be installed as Christmas presents for Mum’s and Dad’s or that loved one that has everything. So why not book yours in too? It’s such a nice gift. The gift that keeps on giving!!! Isn’t that fantastic?

We are running a new Client referral program at the moment too. It has been well received. Just one referral for a plumbed in drinking water system for home or work and receive a beautiful Fruit Box or Fruit & Vege Box from The Vege Barn valued at $49. It really is fresh and delicious. You’ll love it…

If you would like to promote your business on our Newsletter, which has over 5000 active subscribers, please contact Pete in our office on 1300 663 037 or email pete@waterfilterman.com.au and he will assist you with this. We only ask that you actively refer clients to us or promote us in your Newsletter. Cross promotion is always a good thing. Our 2013 newsletter will start on the first Tuesday in February, so that will give plenty of time for planning.

Be safe and enjoy the Christmas break. We will close at 4.30pm on Thursday the 20th of December 2012 and open again at 8.30am on Monday the 7th of January 2013. for an even bigger and better year in 2013!!!

I hope you all take care. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! Stay hydrated and remember…..................If You’re Not Using A Water Filter, Your Body Is One!!!

Could Nanotechnology Solve The Water Crisis?

Nanotechnology could be the answer to ensuring a safe supply of drinking water for regions of the world stricken by periodic drought or where water contamination is rife.

Writing in the International Journal of Nuclear Desalination, researchers in India explain how carbon nanotubes could replace conventional materials in water-purification systems. Water shortages and lack of access to safe drinking water will continue to grow as major global problems. At present, more than one billion people lack access to safe drinking water and 2.4 billion people lack access to proper sanitation, nearly all of them in the developing countries. At present a third of the world's population live in water-stressed countries, and by 2025, this is expected to rise to two-thirds.

S. Kar, R.C. Bindal, S. Prabhakar, P.K. Tewari, K. Dasgupta, and D. Sathiyamoorthy of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai, India, explain how new water purification technologies are constantly being investigated but to be viable in the developing world these have to be relatively simple and inexpensive to install, operate, and maintain.

They have turned to nanostructured, the carbon nanotubes, hollow carbon fibers less than a billionth the thickness of a human hair. The unique chemical properties of carbon nanotubes mean that only very small molecules, such as water molecules can pass along their interiors, whereas viruses, bacteria, toxic metal ions, and large noxious organic molecules cannot.

The team points out that the smooth and water repellant interior of carbon nanotubes means that a filter based on this technology would be very efficient, allowing a high flow rate of water through the filter without fouling. Importantly, the power needed to drive water through such a system will be low compared to conventional membrane technology.

However, to be useful as a nanotech filtration system for contaminated water, these nanoscale structures need to be engineered to form well-defined arrangements to allow the efficient decontamination of water. The team has now investigated the potential of forming water filtration systems based on carbon nanotubes that could remove arsenic, fluoride, heavy metals and toxic organic chemicals. Carbon nanotubes have impressive credentials for water purification, the researchers say.

Water facts

The Ord River is a 320 kilometre long river in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

It was named by Alexander Forrest on 2 August 1879 in honour of Sir Harry St. George Ord GCMG, CB, RE, Governor of Western Australia from 1877 to 1880.

The headwaters of the Ord river are located below the 983m Mount Wells and it initially flow east and around the edge of Purnululu National Park before heading north through Lake Argyle. It then passes west of Kununurra and discharges into the Cambridge Gulf, which is at the southern extremity of the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf, Timor Sea. The river has 35 tributaries of which the five longest are the Bow, Nicholson, Dunham, Panton and Negri Rivers. The river has an average discharge of 3,870,000 Megalitres per year.

Richard's Health Tip

The importance of keeping your body well hydrated!!!

The human body is approximately 65 – 70 % water, so it’s vitally important that we drink enough water to fully hydrate all our trillions of cells to enable them to function correctly.

Dehydration increases inflammation in the body and, since the vast majority of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, heart problems, high cholesterol, arthritis, diabetes and so on, are aggravated or caused by chronic inflammation, it makes good sense to do some simple things to reduce those inflammatory processes. Drinking water, the Essence of Life, is one such thing. Cheers Cheers.
