August 2012

A word from Richard

Hi Everyone, I hope you’re all avoiding the flu symptoms. Stay well hydrated is my best advice. The days are getting longer again now.

Gosh here we are into August already! Feew! Stock take and tax returns are all done. Yay! School holidays are over and on comes the spring. We’re loving it!!!

It is the time of the year for all the business awards and fun nights out. Here’s wishing all award entrants the best of luck. If nothing else it’s a great exercise of looking into your business, how it’s been going and where it’s going.

We had a fantastic night out recently for the Stirling Small Business Awards night at Rendezvous Observation City. Well done to the team at the Stirling business Association.

The 26th – 31st of August is World Water Week. An annual event held in Stockholm, Sweden. Organised by the Stockholm international water institute, Conflict resolution & transboundary water is one of the themes this year.

Get your organisation in joining thousands of people around the globe on September 10 to celebrate the International GYN Awareness Day, an initiative of GAIN Inc that aims to create a higher awareness of GYN and Sexual Health.

So until next time folks….. Stay hydrated and Cheers Cheers.

You either use a water filter or your body is one ® !!!!

Tap water a naturopath's view:

Naturopath Leah Hechtman discusses the downsides of drinking tap water.

Water is the essential nutrient. Life cannot be sustained without it. If your only option is dehydration or tap water, then obviously drink the tap water! If you have the opportunity to choose the healthiest choice, then choose something better. There is considerable concern about the risk of tap water being contaminated by various substances and organisms.

Water from dams, rivers, boreholes or tanks may be contaminated by fuel emissions, industrial waste, human waste, chemicals, sewage, agricultural waste (including pesticides, fertilisers and animal waste), chemical spills, micro-organisms or drug residues. Water treatment may be insufficient to clean the water and remove any dangerous chemicals or organisms.

Treatment plants add chemicals to water that are designed to improve its quality and safety, however there are questions regarding the safety of some of these substances. Chemicals are often added that destroy micro-organisms. Commonly added chemicals include chlorine, chloramine, aluminium and fluoride.

The pipes that water travels through may be contaminated, made of dangerous metals, or in poor condition. A common source of unavoidable copper comes from copper piping. So what do I drink? The best water to drink is spring water as that can be used as a therapeutic agent due to its mineral content. Alternatively, invest in quality water purification or filtration methods to protect you from heavy metals, chemicals, toxins and other nasties.

Leah Hechtman is a naturopath and fertility specialist.

Water facts

Water Anomalies

The chemical substance that we commonly call water presents some of the longest lists of substance anomalies known to man, amongst which most of them are widely a mystery to most people, such as phase, density, material, thermodynamic and physical anomalies. For example, water as a gas is the lightest known, as a liquid it presents a higher density than expected, while when in solid phase it is lighter than expected; when heated it shrinks and when cooled it expands.

Richard's Health Tip

Better exercise

Being dehydrated can severely hamper your athletic activities, slowing you down and making it harder to lift weights. Exercise requires additional water, so be sure to hydrate before, during and after exercise.

Customer testimonial

Aged & Community Services

Thanks For your very prompt response to my request for investigating the possible service/replacement of the water filtration system in our offices.

It was great to finally find a tradesman who not only gave a time and a commitment to complete a project but actually followed it through and got the job done with a minimum of fuss, It was fantastic.
