A word from Richard

Well hello to you all again. Aren't the mornings nice and fresh?

You still need to make sure you stay well hydrated during the colder months so keep up the filtered water intake. Not too much coffee!

Did you know that 80% of the brain is water. (You can't afford not to drink adequate amounts of filtered water daily)

We have been extremely busy here at Water Filter Man HQ with a few rather large new clients added to our data base. This always excites me and keeps my team busy!!!

We're going to need a new service technician very soon to take on the residential servicing if anyone knows someone? Car and phone provided. Heaps of clients to book and then go out and service their water filters. A self motivated team player who has good people skills and presents well to the client is required. Everyone will just love you as our clients are great to deal with.

As we're coming to the end of another Tax year don't forget to get in quick and order your office water filters and systems as a great deduction. Your staff will love you!

On the last Friday of June it is Red Nose Day so let us all get behind this worthy cause.

Until next time stay hydrated. Cheers Cheers.

Deuterium-Depleted Drinking Water

Scientists in China are reporting development of a less expensive; more eco-friendly method for making deuterium-depleted drinking water, citing studies suggesting that it may be a more healthful form of water.

Changgong Meng and Feng Huang note that natural water, widely known as H2O, actually is a mixture of H2O and tiny amounts of D2O -- about 150 parts per million (ppm), or a few drops of D2O in every litre of water.

Deuterium-depleted water usually contains about 125 ppm. The "D" is deuterium, an isotope or variant form of hydrogen often termed "heavy hydrogen." They cite accumulating evidence that water with high levels of deuterium may have adverse health effects on animals and plants, while deuterium-depleted water may be useful in treatment of certain diseases.

Existing ways of removing deuterium from water tend to be expensive, inefficient, or environmentally harmful. They describe a new method that helps overcome these problems, and could be the basis for the first industrial-scale production of deuterium-depleted water.

It involves a platinum catalyst that quickly and efficiently removes deuterium from water using a combination of cold and hot temperatures. In laboratory-scale tests, the new technique reduced the amount of deuterium in water from about 145 parts per million to 125 parts per million. The resulting water is suitable for drinking, the scientists say and could be produced in large quantities at an economical cost.

Their report appears in American Chemical Society bi-weekly journal Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research.

Water facts

Old water

The earth is a closed system, similar to a terrarium, meaning that it rarely loses or gains extra matter. The same water that existed on the earth millions of years ago is still present today.

The total amount of water on the earth is estimated to be about 1 358 trillion Gigalitres of water. (1 gigalitre = one billion litres)

Richard's Health Tip

Heart healthy

Drinking a good amount of filtered water could lower your risks of a heart attack. A six-year study published in the May 1, 2002 American Journal of Epidemiology found that those who drink more than 5 glasses of filtered water a day were 41% less likely to die from a heart attack than those who drank less than two glasses.
